Male Yeast Infection – no less gawky
September 6th, 2008
Though the term yeast infection is generally thought to be exclusive to women, as a matter of fact, it’s prevalent in males almost in the same degree due to the fact that yeasts would breed in warm, moist condition irrespective of a male or female body. Same as in females, yeasts generally colonize in the genital areas in a male body and besides this men are also vulnerable to an oral form of yeast infection. In addition, men having diabetes or HIV are at a higher risk line to develop yeast infection.
Understanding Male Yeast Infection
The fact why we associate yeast infection with women is that male yeast infection is a bit less conspicuous compared to that in a woman. The most frequent locale of female yeast infectivity is the vagina. Yeasts in the vaginal canal trigger the infection faster in women and thus they get a clue of the infection. What generally happens in case of a man is that when yeasts transmit to a male body, they travel up the urethral canal and settle in the prostrate gland. Besides, sometimes men also develop the infection on their skin of penis but the temperature there (77 degrees, approximately) keeps the infection latent. Chiefly for these facts men often have no idea of any yeast infection unless and until yeasts create any grave health hazard like prostrate cancer. For the dormancy of yeast infection in men, you won’t normally see a boy having a prostrate problem but a good number of adults have this at some point of their life.
Causes of male yeast infection
Unprotected sex, antibiotics, certain disease, weaker immune system and certain foods are some major generators of yeast infection. Almost all these agents contribute to the proliferation of candida (the fungus responsible for this infectivity) outweighing the mass of “good bacteria” inside the body that comprise the body’s immune system.
Unprotected sex:
This is the way that most male yeast infection goes off. Unguarded sex with a yeast-infected female transmits yeast to the male. From this aspect, yeast infection is an STD (sexually transmitted disease). Often it’s the case that an infected woman passes on yeasts to her male partner, gets cured herself but is again infected from the partner through sex. Yeast infection in men can put a male in such cycle as well. So it’s wise for both the genders not to have sex with the infected partner.
Antibiotics:
Antibiotics act to kill the harmful microorganisms causing a disease. But taking it for longer period or intensively or overdoses start acting upon the mass of “good bacteria” that fight yeasts and other fungi. This way, indecent use of antibiotics damages the proper ratio of “good bacteria” to yeasts (as some amount of yeasts always exists inside the body) and the amount of yeast hikes up.
Foods:
Candida, the yeast-causing fungi, lives mostly on sugar. What’s more, regular mold intake is responsible for the damage of the body’s immune. So, foods that are rich in sugar or contaminated with molds and fungus raise the possibility of yeast infection.
Disease:
Men who are suffering from diabetes are more prone to yeast infection as they have higher sugar level in urine. This is a very favorable setting for yeasts to breed and thus people with diabetes should be more concerned about such infectivity.
The Symptoms
Some of the symptoms that you’ll build up are visually identifiable while some others you’d perhaps be able to sense. You’ll develop a desire for foods like sweet, chips etc that yeasts feed on. Besides, bloating and digestive problems are major signs of this infectivity. The following list provides an array of likely symptoms of yeast infection:
- constipation,
- bad breath,
- frequent intestinal gas,
- frequent diarrhea,
- very loose stools,
- sexual dysfunction,
- irritability and mood swings,
- fatigue or lack of energy,
- memory loss,
- dry itchy flaky skin,
- athletes feet,
- prostrate problem
In case of penile yeast infectivity, the skin on the penis becomes dry and gets cracked when erected resulting in sharp pain. Besides, the following symptoms are likely to be dominant as well:
· Occasional discharge from the penis
· Uncomfortable, stinging sensation
- Swollenness, redness and hypersensitivity of penis
- Spotty painful rash on penis
Though mostly thought to be a feminine infectivity, yeast infection is common in both the sexes. Though not a great threat to your health, this awfully irritating infection gets on the temper. Knowing the basics about Yeast infection cure would serve you as a safeguard to manage (if not prevent) the nasty microbe
