Gentian Violet and Infant Oral Thrush

Gentian violet sounds like it would come from a lovely plant and the dark bluish-violet color would indicate the same. However, this substance actually comes from coal tar. Historically gentian violet was used for staining bacteria so that it would be easier to study. Today, it is used as a treatment for stubborn cases of thrush.

Thrush is a fungal infection in the mouth and a type of candida infection. Adults sometimes experience the discomfort of this type of infection even though most commonly thrush is associated with infants. The first course of action in treating thrush on an infant is to sterilize the bottles and toys that the baby may put in his or her mouth frequently. If that doesn’t work, sometimes a physician will recommend using an antifungal cream or gentian violet.

Gentian violet has a strong antifungal property that penetrates deep into the skin. The treatment is often applied to a woman’s breast during breastfeeding as well to ensure that the fungal infection is not passed back and forth from infant to mother.

A definite concern of this method goes much deeper than the potential it has for staining clothes. Gentian violet used in excess has been linked to cancer in Australian laboratory studies. This is definitely a frightening prospect when it comes to healing an infant.

The other tricky thing about thrush is that it causes sores and pain in the mouth. Nobody likes to see an infant suffer and unlike an adult you cannot ask a baby to use a special mouthwash that they can swish around.

Since thrush is caused by an imbalance of the mouth between yeast and healthy bacteria, one treatment commonly used is to introduce healthy bacteria into the mouth of the infant via yogurt or probiotics. For mild infections, this can restore the balance the body needs without introducing a harsher substance.

As mentioned, frequent sterilizing of items that infants put in their mouth is another great course of action to prevent thrush from ever arising. Bottles and toys should be washed frequently.

Another great tip is to use a clean washcloth to wipe the baby’s mouth after each feeding. This practice is recommended by dental health practitioners in an effort to create a clean balance in the infant’s mouth prior to teething. The wiping practice will actually assist the baby in having healthier teeth into adulthood.

Prevention is key when it comes to thrush. Adults can use a variety of alternative solutions for stopping thrush including:

1.) Apply peppermint oil to the toothbrush when brushing. This not only reduces the burning and irritation experienced with an infection of the mouth. Peppermint oil has antifungal properties that bode well for fending off candida in the mouth. Dilute this oil with a carrier oil such as coconut oil.

2.) Aloe. Food grade aloe vera has antimicrobial properties that lend to a surprising amount of relief. This plant has become famous for its ability to relieve the itching and burning associated with sunburn. It also alleviates the discomfort felt by those experiencing a thrush inflammation of the mouth.

3.) Coconut oil. This oil has the miraculous ability to dissolve the cell walls of harmful yeast and bacteria while allowing healthy bacteria to thrive. An excellent topical solution for thrush, it can be mixed with peppermint oil and aloe to form a sort of mouthwash for those suffering from thrush.

It is important to exhibit extra care with babies as their environment plays a key role in their development. Ask your physician before undertaking any type of alternate remedy for yourself or your child. Ask your doctor about aloe and coconut oil as a potential remedy for thrush in infants. Essential oil is not recommended for use with infants.

Get Rid Of Your Burning Yeast Infection Today

It burns during intercourse, it burns during urination, and it burns when clothes rub against the area. Yeast infections not only cause pain, burning and itching; those experiencing a yeast infection on the skin or genitals may also be experiencing a yeast infection inside the body that cannot be seen.

When yeast takes root in the digestive tract and kidneys it can cause fatigue, queasiness, and aching joints. People with this type of infection often report that they have a general feeling of being “always tired” and sleep frequently. The joint inflammation coupled with potential headaches can wear out a person quickly.

If you suspect you have a yeast infection it is always a good idea to consult a physician, particularly if you sense that it is impacting your internal organs as well. Also, ask your doctor about the below home remedies that can assist you with the healing process.

1.) Coconut oil. The wonders of this oil are still being explored, and the potential for its healing properties are shocking. A mighty agent against harmful bacteria and the candida fungus, coconut oil has the special ability to break down the cellular structure of invasive bacteria and fungus in the body.

This oil was once thought to be harmful to people if taken over the long term due to the high level of saturated fat. However, coconut has been found to be easily digestible much like olive oil, causing a boost in high-density lipoprotein, or HDL, which is nicknamed “good” cholesterol. Taken internally, coconut oil is used to fight off a yeast infection of the organs. Applied topically to the infected area, coconut oil breaks down candida while leaving healthy bacteria intact.

2.) Tea tree oil. This tried and true oil has helped people with everything from treating acne to poison ivy. An antifungal, tea tree oil snuffs out the most difficult of skin conditions. Used topically on the infected area, many people find rapid relief to yeast infection symptoms.

3.) Lavender. This plant is famous in spas for its ability to relax patrons by reducing anxiety and headaches. It also has a positive effect on muscle tension making it easier for an individual to relax. Found to have antifungal properties, lavender serves as a healing potion for those afflicted by yeast infections. Tea can be used in the bath or taken internally: oil can be diluted and applied directly to the affected area.

4.) Lemongrass. Another active antifungal, lemongrass makes a delicious tea. Available in the form of oil, it adds a refreshing fragrance when diluted and applied to the skin.

A refreshing salve can be produced out of these four ingredients. Melt coconut oil over low heat and add a few drops of each of the above essential oils. Allow the salve to cool and apply to the infected area. Do not take the mixture internally: instead, take coconut oil by itself. Be sure to purchase virgin coconut oil that has not been tainted with hydrogenated oils. These are known to be unhealthy.

Natural Cures: Herbal Yeast Infection Remedies

The suffering caused by a yeast infection is prominent and persistent. Symptoms include a white or yellow accumulation at the affection area, and moves into a rash of inflammation. An imbalance in the body is a contributing factor for yeast infections if they do not result in poor hygiene. Fluctuating hormones and immune system function are also key culprits for vulnerability to the candida bug.

If you suspect you have a yeast infection, first consult your physician. The safety of an herbal remedy depends on the individual. We all have our “kryptonite” and our doctors know best how to handle the conditions that afflict us.

That said, here are five suggested home remedies for curing a yeast infection and stomping out the candida bug:

Echinacea. This herb is useful for stimulating the immune system and assisting the body with fighting off a yeast infection. Yeast infections can be caused by a temporary reduction in immune system function so it naturally follows that stimulating the immune system would assist in staving off an infection. In Europe it is more commonplace to take Echinacea in a cyclical nature, where it is taken for a few weeks then the body is allowed to rest.

Garlic. With its antifungal and antibacterial properties, garlic is a natural choice for snuffing out yeast infections. Some even go so far as to wrap it in cheesecloth, tie a string to it, and use as a sort of tampon to treat yeast infections. To me, it seems like a better idea to ingest it the usual way, incorporating it into as many food items as possible. Yeast infections can spread into other organs once introduced into the body, so allowing it to attack all areas of the body that are infected seems like a much safer solution.

Calendula. This herb does wonders for burns and rashes, so if you have a yeast infection on the skin it can provide a great deal of relief. It is possible to purchase this in herbal form, but creams and gels are also available that are easy to apply and use. A bonus? These gels and creams have a very mild fragrance making it easy to apply frequently throughout the day to the infected area. Calendula also has antifungal properties.

Aloe. An extremely safe plant to use, aloe also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties that can stave off an infection. A great solution for men and women with sensitive skin aloe gives immediate relief to rashes and infection. Coupled with tea tree oil, aloe can be strengthened to create a potent antifungal solution that heals and prevents yeast infection. It is also noteworthy that aloe is available in consumable form, assisting with ulcers that are caused by internal yeast infections.

Tea tree oil. As mentioned, tea tree has profound antifungal properties. When blended with an anti-inflammatory like aloe, the relief is profound. A few drops of tea tree in two ounces of aloe blended together provide enormous relief for yeast infection sufferers. Not only can it easily be applied topically (unlike remedies that require you to be in the bath or shower), the relief is almost immediate while the symptoms subside over the course of a couple of days.

Oregano Oil: A Candida Cure Like No Other

Oregano oil contains phenol carvacrol, which is though to be the active ingredient causing it to have profound antifungal properties. Even just brewing the leaves of oregano in the form of a tea is said to be helpful in alleviating coughs, colds, and infections.

One theory is that oregano oil raises the temperature of the body when taken internally, stimulating the immune system, and dehydrating germs and fungus. If you have candida–internally or externally–this is a valuable bit of information, because candida is a type of fungus.

This Mediterranean plant is not only amazing at killing harmful bacteria, parasites, and fungus: it also tastes delicious. An excellent addition to pizza, and many other dishes, it’s a great idea to keep a patch in the yard to incorporate into foods.

Before using any home remedies including oregano oil consult a physician. There are some known side effects of its use including a reduced ability to absorb iron. When taken internally, use caution.

For yeast infections a topical solution can be made with oil of oregano and a carrier oil such as olive oil, apricot oil, or jojoba oil. I recommend making sure that it is highly diluted due to the stinging and burning that can occur with a concentration that is too strong. In my experience one drop of oregano oil for every ounce of carrier oil is a good start.

Another option is to make a salve out of virgin coconut oil and oil of oregano. To do so, heat the coconut oil and pour into a heat-safe container. Add oregano oil one drop for every ounce of coconut oil. When the mixture is almost cooled, stir it to make sure the oregano oil is incorporated into the coconut oil.

Apply the oil or salve to the infected area twice per day. When the infection seems to be gone, apply for a few more days to ensure it has completely subsided. The salve should not be used every day as it may cause irritation, but using at the onset of a suspected yeast infection can prevent it from getting much worse.

When taking internally, I find that the most pleasant way to consume oil of oregano is with a pasta dish. Coupled with garlic oil, the taste is delicious and the attack on the internal infection is two-fold. Garlic oil has also been found to have significant anti-fungal properties.

Cure Under Breast Rashes Painlessly

Yeast infections and rashes under the breast are common among women. Many websites discuss hygiene as a key culprit for why so many women suffer from under breast yeast infections. True–of course, infections and hygiene go hand in hand. However, this type of infection can happen to people who shower frequently and exhibit what most of us would consider “good hygiene”.

Part of the reason is because the folds under the breast are often subject to a lack of oxygen and circulated air. Certain types of fabric found in dress clothes–such as rayon—reduce the airflow even further.

Folds in skin also accumulate sweat making the area under breasts warm and moist. As most of us remember from high school science class, this is a great environment for bacteria and other microorganisms to grow.

So, if you have good hygiene but still got a yeast infection or rash under your breasts, don’t beat yourself up. These things happen to women, particularly those with large breasts.

Several home remedies used to treat yeast infections under breasts include:

Goldenseal. Goldenseal has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It has a mild fragrance and typically a gentle effect when applied topically to the skin. Due to over-harvesting, goldenseal has become more rare. If you purchase it, be sure the source is farmed and not wild.

Garlic. In talking about a natural remedy, garlic always seems to come up. A great gift to mankind for it’s fabulous flavor and healing potential. Garlic oil fights harmful bacteria and fungus on the skin and in the digestive system.

Apple cider vinegar. Whether in the shower or the bath, make sure some apple cider vinegar comes in contact with the rash under your breasts. I like to either pour it in my bath water, or pour some in my body wash. Many dispute as to why apple cider vinegar is effective in combating yeast, but it is thought that the success has something to do with malic acid found in organic apple cider vinegar.

Tea tree oil. For a particularly stubborn yeast infection under your breasts, tea tree oil works great. It has a very powerful anti-microbial and anti-fungal agent known as terpinen-4-ol. I like to add six drops to about two ounces of olive oil (which is rich in vitamin E, a great thing to use on a skin rash) and use as a topical treatment.

Calendula. Calendula has been used for centuries to treat skin ailments. It has a positive effect on sunburn, and eczema. One reason many have had success with it in curing rashes under the breast is because it has anti-fungal properties. It also works wonders for alleviating pain on inflamed skin. Calendula would be a great remedy to use if you are concerned about your fragrance as calendula creams and gels are virtually odorless.

I have found a blend of these remedies to be most helpful. If you were only going to choose one, I would say opt for the tea tree oil remedy. Before using this or any home remedy, please consult your physician.

Yeast Infections in the Urinary Tract: 3 Wonder Treatments

The itching the burning, how can you take it another day? It seems like you have to use the restroom every twenty minutes, only to sit down and discover that there is no need for you to have such an urgent need. When you are finally able to release, the itching and burning is so intense you wish you never had to go again. You notice an odor, and your urine is cloudy. It’s uncomfortable and embarrassing.

Even worse, urinary tract infections can go on for weeks. It is something that needs care in an effort to shorten its life. It only takes a few days for a urinary tract infection of any type to feel like it has been going on forever.

Most urinary tract infections are caused by the introduction of bacteria but some urinary tract infections are caused by the introduction of yeast into the urinary tract. Both types of infections have similar symptoms including itching, stinging, and burning urination.

Urinary tract infection causes include:

1.) A weakened immune system
2.) Catheter use
3.) Intercourse
4.) “Holding it” and not urinating frequently enough
5.) Taking long baths
6.) Spermicide use
7.) Clothing that causes excess moisture
8.) Wiping from the rear to the front

Whether your irritation and discomfort are caused by yeast or bacteria, here are a few home remedies that can keep urinary tract infections at bay.

Cranberry juice. Cranberry juice increases the acidity level in urine making it difficult for yeast and bacteria to survive. In order to increase acidity to a curable level, you will need to drink a large amount of cranberry juice in a short amount of time. Depending on the size of an individual, somewhere around half a gallon of cranberry juice per day until the infection is gone. Be sure to buy real cranberry juice. If you see something like 10% juice on the container, you’re getting mostly sugar and water which will feed the infection rather than cure it. Try to attain 100% cranberry juice.

Coconut oil. Coconut oil is a powerful agent for clearing up infections. When taken internally, it combats bacteria and yeast for a speedy recovery. Be sure to purchase extra virgin coconut oil to ensure that you are not taking in hydrogenated oil. It can be purchased in a jar much like peanut butter or in tablet form. Coconut oil weakens the cell walls of bacteria and yeast, eventually killing it.

Garlic. Garlic boosts your immune system making it easier for your body to fight off infection. When present in urine, it combats yeast and bacteria. A spread or sauce made with fresh garlic cloves adds a great addition to dinner, and just might help you get a better night’s rest by eliminating frequent trips to the restroom. Use fresh garlic, it will be the most potent.

Coconut Oil Will Cure Your Yeast Infection

Make your own slide show at Animoto.

The health benefits of coconut oil are overwhelming and have been proven to be an amazing cure for yeast infections.

For starters, coconut oil is wonderful for your skin and hair. Those who take it regularly have reported coconut oil as making dry skin look radiant and fine hair to become thicker with a natural glossy sheen. Coconut oil is an antioxidant, which could explain it’s positive effects on the skin potentially slowing down the aging process. Something we would all enjoy!

This oil, however, does not just have a positive effect on the outside. It has been shown to have profound heath benefits inside the human body as well. In fact, nearly all organs stand to benefit from coconut oil consumption including your heart, kidneys, and digestive organs.

You see, coconut oil contains three medium-chain fatty acids: lauric acid, caprylic acid, and capric acid. These acids have amazing healing properties. Not only do they aid in speeding up the healing process of your bodily tissue, but they are extremely harmful to invasive organisms growing inside your body.

Harmful bacteria and yeasts can cause an imbalance in the body to make you feel generally ill. An advanced internal yeast infection actually “takes root” in your organs causing them to malfunction. This can lead to digestive disorders, kidney pain, back pain, canker sores, and a general sense of being tired as your body works overtime trying to function while in an impaired state.

What’s amazing about the medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil is that they actually cause the walls of harmful yeast and bacteria to weaken and dissolve, thus killing off the harmful bacteria and yeast in your body while leaving your healthy tissue intact.

This means that coconut oil is extremely valuable for those with yeast infections: whether the infection is internal, external, or both. Moreover, your tissue heals more quickly because coconut oil helps the body absorb vitamin E.

To add to the healing effects of coconut oil: it stimulates the immune system and metabolism, assisting in shedding excess weight and harmful cholesterol. Since it is a saturated fat, many people have assumed that coconut oil is harmful to the circulatory system. However, coconut oil has been found to strengthen arteries making them more resilient.

Be certain to purchase extra virgin, cold pressed coconut oil. Some manufacturers like to add hydrogenated oil to their coconut oil in an effort to save money on production. However, saving money will cost you when it comes to your health. Hydrogenated oils are harmful, particularly to your heart, and often cause weight gain in those who regularly consume it.
